Faith After Doubt

christianity reading

Let’s talk about doubt.

Not the kind you whisper in the back row of a church service or scribble in a journal you hope no one ever reads. I’m talking about the big, lingering, soul-level questions.

If that’s you, or if it used to be, or if you’re worried it might be someday, then I want to invite you to join me for something that could be deeply healing and surprisingly encouraging: an online book study of Faith After Doubt by Brian McLaren.

McLaren writes like someone who’s sat in the rubble and sifted through it with grace and curiosity. He doesn’t shame you for your questions. He actually thinks your questions might be the very thing that leads you into a more honest faith. In fact, the central premise of the book is this: “Doubt isn’t the enemy of faith—it’s often the doorway to it.”

Starting Monday, July 7th, I’m hosting a book study in our online community (in fact, the community's members voted for this as our next book). This isn’t your grandmother’s book club, although your grandma is totally welcome if she’s okay with spiritual deconstruction and using phrases like “toxic theology.”

This is a space for people who sometimes feel like misfits, who cringe at Christian nationalism, who long for something real and rooted in Jesus, not just religion. People who still love God but aren’t always sure how to keep doing that in today’s church.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Weekly reflections (each chapter of the book closes with questions for reflection... perfect for us to discuss together!)

  • A private community space where it’s safe to say what you really think

  • Room for honest questions, half-formed thoughts, and the occasional heretical meme

  • Solidarity with others navigating similar waters

And most importantly, we’ll be reading this book together, not racing to the finish line or trying to impress each other with theological jargon. We’ll sit with it. Wrestle with it. Let it change us.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need to be curious. That’s enough.

Because here’s the truth: you’re not alone. Not in your questions. Not in your doubts. And not in your hope that something beautiful can still be built from the ruins.

Let’s read Faith After Doubt together.
