The Edge of the Inside Launches Today!

personal reading theology
The Edge of the Inside by Jeremy Jernigan, a faith deconstruction book with foreword by Greg Boyd. Now available at edgeoftheinside.com.

"The Edge of the Inside will save the faith of some, transform the faith of others, and spark faith in many for the first time." That's a line from Greg Boyd in the foreword to my book. I pray he's right.

Today, The Edge of the Inside has officially been released into the world.

If you could have told me six years ago that I would be as grateful for what I went through as I feel today, it would not have made any sense to me. Especially when you read some of the details I share in part one of the book. It feels a bit like Joseph's observation, "You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good" (Genesis 50:20).

My hope is that this book finds your story inside its pages. That it reminds you you're not alone. That it shows you a God who is wilder and better than the version you were given. Father Richard Rohr says that "practical truth is more likely found at the bottom and the edges than at the top or the center." That's what this book is. A map for people who already suspect that's true but haven't had language for it yet.

For me, the last few years have been filled with meeting others who felt this same shift. Writing a book that has already connected with the stories of so many others has been a unique joy for me. I hope we've just scratched the surface. Many of the people who've already read it would describe themselves as somewhere in the middle of deconstruction, or recovering from church hurt they didn't have language for.

Here are a few comments from our launch team:

  • "I really could have used this book or these conversations like ten years ago..." Meg
  • "I don’t recall ever crying when reading a book, but I’ve wept heavy tears reading through pages in this book that feel just like moments I’ve experienced being exiled from the center." JC
  • "It feels like I’m swimming in a smorgasbord of validation." Catherine
  • "I didn't know anyone else was feeling like this. Literally choked up thinking I may not be alone." Ryan
  • "Mind blown in the best of ways. Can't believe how many ideas I'd never heard before, having spent more than four decades in 'the church.'" Sarah
  • "I cannot begin to thank you enough for helping to provide clarity and hope for someone like myself who left the church, but not faith in Jesus." Tim
  • "Jeremy has put into words what my spirit has felt a long time." Steve
  • "I laughed, I cried (on the inside), and got angry, then I got thoughtful." Kyle
  • "Thank you for putting words to so much of what I've experienced and at the same time, the hope I have for a different imagination for what could be... what should be." Rich
  • "I feel mostly on the outside, but the language of being 'on the edge' resonates with hopefulness." Jen

So here's my ask: Will you buy a copy of my book today? I believe that a journey of much pain and confusion resulted in something with the power to offer hope and healing to others navigating the same questions about faith, church, and God.

A secondary ask is this: Will you take a moment to help these ideas reach more people? One of the easiest ways to tangibly support the book is to buy a copy on Amazon first and then leave a positive (hopefully five-star!) review afterward. This turns your review into a "verified review" and gives it greater weight. A bunch of five-star reviews will cause this to show up for more people to see. And if you could share the link on your social media, that would help immensely.

As of now, you can buy it in paperback, on Kindle, or even in a signed copy. There will be an audiobook version available sometime soon!

I'd love for you to experience Catherine's "smorgasbord of validation" for yourself. And somewhere out there is the person who needs to experience Ryan's words and realize they aren't alone either. I hope you'll help us find them.

If this resonated, there's more where it came from. The Rebuilding Faith community is where I do this work every week alongside people rebuilding their faith on the outside of institutional Christianity — book studies, live calls, weekly newsletter, and honest conversation. Find out more.
